I am a thoughtful, intentional, candid, and engaged classroom teacher of English Language Arts who has a genuine and sincere stake in the self-actualization of all my students, as well as a teacher-leader who is dedicated to taking my voice outside of the classroom and into the national arena of conversations and changes in and about the education of America's students and the teaching profession. In addition, I am currently a member of the Bill and Melinda Gates' Teacher Advisiry Council's 2014-2016 cohort of 50 highly talented teachers from across the U.S. committed to a two-year term, during which we come together on a regular basis to support the development and review of the Bill & Melinda Gates' Foundation input in education. This work includes sharing my insights on how to translate their vision into implementation in schools and districts, advising and weighing in on important complexities of the teaching profession such as: teacher evaluation and feedback systems, classroom engagement of students, professional development, the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, the supports and tools teachers want and need, technology-based enhancements to learning, and overall best practices of effective teachers and teaching.
